Hello planet phpGroupware

Hello planet phpGroupware !

I’m not a developper of the project, but as a contributor to Picoforge, which uses phpGroupware for its infrastructure, I’m from time to time confronted to internals of the project, so I’ll probably have things to say about it.

At the present time, I’m considering how I can do Apache authentication in phpGroupware for SSO among all Web applications integrated in PicoForge, instead of having the standard PHP/web form login dialog. There seem to have been some code included in phpGroupware, but the stable version doesn’t seem fully ready for that… so I think I’ll have to patch.

And yes, we wanna stick as much as possible to Debian etch’s version of phpGroupware, even though things we’re interested in are probably more or less there in HEAD (special dedicace à Caeies;).

Identification of scholars by their passport number in Brazil ?

Filed under: Publications — Tags: — Olivier Berger @ 23:14

Weird, and a little bit scary, IMHO… I’ve just been asked by Brazilian collegues to provide my passport number as I’ve been contributing as one author of a to-be-published conference proceedings edition.

It’s required by editors apparently to avoid identifying homonyms the wrong way…

First time I’ve been confronted to that, and definitely less common than giving the passport number when checking-in at hotels.

I just hope they have proper privacy policy ;)

Moving my professional blog to new homepage

Filed under: CALIBRE project,PFTCR,ProGET,Projects,Publications,Uncategorized — Olivier Berger @ 18:41

Attention : I’m using a new homepage for hosting my weblog.

All content which used to be available at http://www-inf.int-evry.fr/~olberger/weblog/ should now be accessed at http://www-public.int-evry.fr/~berger_o/weblog/

Please update bookmarks and/or syndication.

Rewriterules are active to redirect to the new location in principle.

Thanks for keeping with us ;)

Update 2007/03/18 : I’ve added some special feeds redirection to try and wrap each items syndicated from the old location with a warning header. I’ve used goog old planet to do so… If wanna check the results, see (the ATOM feed) : http://www-inf.int-evry.fr/~olberger/feed/atom/. Planet, I love you ;)

Suspend working at last on my Dell Latitude D505 with Debian etch

I’m glad to have suspend (with hibernate + swsusp, i.e. nothing patched) working on my Dell Latitude D505 equipped with Debian etch.

There are still some issues due to buggy BIOS, but more or less, it’s usable. More details on the page dedicated to such system setup.

Cool ;)

Comparison of forges / hosting sites for collaborative projects

I’ve noticed this interesting document, in addition to the other one from morfeo I’ve blogged about earlier :
Comparison of Free/Open Source Project Hosting (FOSPHost) Sites Available for Hosting Projects Externally from Project Owners.

The author seems to have worked for his PhD thesis on these matters. Interesting link to add to bibliography.

Study on improvements to GForge, and implementation, made in the Morfeo project

The Morfeo project in Spain has produced a study report on the improvement of GForge, which compares GForge and other software forges. The document, in english Study of Improvements and New Functionalities for Gforge, is quite interesting to read. It is completed by Improvements in Gforge (copy in PDF), which lists the implementations that have been made accordingly in Morfeo.

The initial version was issued in Spanish as Estudio de Mejoras y nuevas Funcionalidades para G-Forge (attached to the bottom of that page) under GNU FDL, and has been translated for the QualiPSo project.

I should note also that we’ve been informed of this document by discussing with other french speaking people interested by forges on the “forges” list created with the “Overcrowded” project people. I hope that through this open collaboration forum, developpers of GForge will have had the chance to know about the document.
