Summary

The Newcom Department 1 meeting for Supra Work Package 1, "Iterative Decoding and Iterative Receiver Design," was organized by David Declercq and took place at the Ecole Supérieure de l'Electronique et de ses Applications (ENSEA), Cergy-Pontoise, France, April 28 and 29, 2005. The first day of the meeting was devoted to scientific talks, emphasizing three topics:
  1. Coding for short block lengths (4 talks);
  2. Design of iterative receivers (5 talks);
  3. Multi-bit per Hertz coding (2 talks).
The second day of the meeting was reserved for extending and/or initiating collaborations within Newcom, with two major groups in the morning session followed by smaller, more specialized groups in the afternoon, resulting in many planned collaborations. The next SWP1 meeting will take place late 2005 or early 2006, in order to gauge progress of the collaborations initiated during this meeting, and to forge new contacts for future work.
