Summary

The Newcom Dept 1 Meeting took place in Vienna, Austria on September 8, 2004, at the Vienna University of Technology (with thanks to Gerald Matz for the local arrangements). For the venue and a list of the attendees, click here.

The major item on the agena was the selection of Technical Correspondents for each subtopic that has evolved in the definition of knowledge gaps. The Technical Correspondents will assist me in preparing upcoming scientific reports, mainly in their capacity as scientific experts on their designated topics, functioning therefore as scientific proofreaders. The first task will involve completing the final version of our document on Knowledge Gaps, which will form the basis of our first deliverable for Department 1 activities.

The present list of subtopics, and the corresponding Technical Correspondents, is as follows:
  1. Error Correction Coding for Moderate Block Lengths

  2. Signal Design for OFDM and MIMO Systems

  3. Coding Design for OFDM and MIMO Systems

  4. Large-Scale Multi-User and Multi-Antenna System Analysis

  5. Wideband Network Scalability

  6. Multi-bit per Herz coding

  7. Joint (Turbo) Receiver Optimization

  8. Advanced Signal Processing Algorithms for Wireless Communications

  9. Multi-User Codes

  10. User Mobility Tracking and Handoff Algorithms
A recent version of the (evolving) Knowledge Gaps document can always be found here.
